The next phase of the Ukrainian selection took place on 5 December. This stage of the competition is actually the first semi final. In a change to the format the local broacaster, NTU, advised the previous 5 shows were quarter finals.
The first semi final featured 8 acts that did not pass immediately at the quarter final stage. These acts were determined by sms voting. The following 5 acts progressed to the final.
