Serbia: Beovizija Semifinal

This evening, Serbia, last year’s hosts, held the semifinal of the Beovizija contest to decide the ten songs to perform again in tomorrow’s final.

The competing songs in order of appearance were;

2)   Zbogom Brus Li – Ha Ha Ha
3)   Trio Pasaz and Katarina Sotirovic – Zauvek
4)   Vanja Mijatovic – Led i Zar
5)   Sonja Bakic – Nista Novo
6)   Marko Kon and Milan Nikolic – Cipela
7)   Andrej Ilic – Nemam Te
8)   Etar – Sanjaj Me
9)   Lejla Hot – Cekajuci Princa
10) Dusan Zrnic – Tvoje Drugo Ime Je Greh
11) Minja Samardzic – Petak Uvece
12) Oscar & Beauty Queens feat. Dorde Marjanovic – Superstar
13) Ana Nikolic – Bili Smo Najlepsi
14) Ivana Selakov – Moje Odbrane
15) Pozitivan Haos – Gloria
16) Danijel and Milica – H8ER
17) Zemlja Gruva – Svejedno Je
18) Saska Jankovic – Nauci Me
19) OT Band & Kaja – Blagoslov Za Kraj
20) Tijana Bogicevic – Pazi Sta Radis

1) SevdahBABY and Miki Element – Previse Reci – This is a pleasant up-tempo song which may make the final, but probably will make no more of an impact than that.

2) Zbogom Brus Li – Ha Ha Ha – If there is a stranger song tonight, I will be surprised. It has to be seen to be believed. Could the country that brought us Lane Moje and Molitva really send this? Very unlikely.

3) Trio Pasaz and Katarina Sotirovic – Zauvek – This is sung by two females and has a slightly rocky feel to it.

4) Vanja Mijatovic – Led i Zar- The fourth song is the sort of ballad one might expect from Serbia and has a strong chorus.

5) Sonja Bakic – Nista Novo – Sonja makes full use of the size of the stage as she wanders around singing this rock song.

6) Marko Kon and Milan Nikolic – Cipela – The accordion makes an appearance for this faintly traditional sounding song.

7) Andrej Ilic – Nemam Te – Andrej sings a mid-tempo song which starts off in the style of a ballad before picking up a bit more pace.

8) Etar – Sanjaj Me – This is an average rock song given an average performance.

9) Lejla Hot – Cekajuci Princa – Sporting a prop in the form of a newspaper and a t-shirt claiming ‘I love New York’, Lejla sells this mid-tempo pop song well.

10) Dusan Zrnic – Tvoje Drugo Ime Je Greh – One of the strongest songs so far, it is powerful and well staged.

11) Minja Samardzic – Petak Uvece – It’s worth sticking with this song as it delivers more than it promises at the start.

12) Oscar & Beauty Queens feat. Dorde Marjanovic – Superstar – Beauty Queens were Marija Serifovic’s backing group and came close to representing Serbia last year. Both songs were classy ballads. This song, it is fair to say, is not. Oscar wears a false moustache and fake glasses during what can only be described as a nonsense song.

13) Ana Nikolic – Bili Smo Najlepsi – Ana wears an interesting leather leotard outfit and performs this up tempo pop song well.

14) Ivana Selakov – Moje Odbrane – This song is OK in parts and less than OK in others.

15) Pozitivan Haos – Gloria – The variety of musical styles continues with a pop-opera song performed by a male duo. The voices are strong and they clearly enjoy singing the song.

16) Danijel and Milica – H8ER – The male/female duo doesn’t give this modern pop song the performance it deserves. The song might be strong enough to make the final.

17) Zemlja Gruva – Svejedno Je – This is a jazz style number which, like a lot of jazz, is slightly messy in the way it comes cross.

18) Saska Jankovic – Nauci Me – Nauci Me is a ballad and starts of very well, but slightly loses its way by the end.

19) OT Band & Kaja – Blagoslov Za Kraj – The style of the song changes throughout the song but, surprisingly, it all blends quite well.

20) Tijana Bogicevic – Pazi Sta Radis – A slick dance routine cover up cwhat is the kind of song the listener could easily be distracted from before the end.

Later in the show, the ten finalists were revealed;

Oscar & Beauty Queens feat. Dorde Marjanovic – Superstar
Danijel and Milica
Sonja Bakic – Nista Novo
Saska Jankovic – Nauci Me
Dusan Zrnic – Tvoje Drugo Ime Je Greh
Marko Kon and Milan Nikolic – Cipela
OT Band & Kaja – Blagoslov Za Kraj
Andrej Ilic – Nemam Te
Etar – Sanjaj Me
Pozitivan Haos – Gloria

The final takes place tomorrow night.
