Representatives of the EBU and the German broadcaster NDR finally agreed on May 14th as the date of the final of next year’s Eurovision Song Contest. The semi finals will be held on Tuesday, May 10th and Thursday, May 12th.
Originally the provisional date of the final was May 21st, but on this date there is already the final of the German football cup in Berlin. Due to strict contracts between the German football association and the two public broadcasters ARD and ZDF, this final must be broadcast by the ARD next year which is also responsible for broadcasting the Eurovision Song Contest in Germany.
Furthermore, it is still planned that Lena will represent Germany again in 2011. When Stefan Raab made this proposal during the winner’s press conference in Oslo we all thought that this might be a joke. Now it seems that Lena really wants to defend her title. More details about the German final, for example which composers will take part, are still to be discussed.
And finally we are also still waiting for a decision as to which city the ESC will take place. Currently eight cities are interested in organizing the event. A new candidate is Mannheim, the hometown of Joy Fleming who represented Germany in 1975 and finished 17th with Ein Lied kann eine Brücke sein. The announcement of the venue will probably not be made before the end of the summer holidays in the middle/end of August.
