Deadline expires tomorrow and Ukraine has no entry

Each participating delegation has to hand in their song for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest at the Head Of Delegation meeting in Oslo tomorrow. Despite 2 national finals and thus 2 songs presented as the Ukrainian entry the country is hours away from the dealine without an entry.

First Vasyl Lazarovych was chosen to represent Ukraine via an internal selection. A national final where he sang 5 songs resulted in the first 2010 Ukrainian entry, which was decided by an expert jury. The song picked was titled I Love You and everyone assumed that it would represent the country, which has never failed to reach the final in the Eurovision Song Contest.

However, A new TV director at the national broadcaster NTU wasn’t pleased with the song nor the fact that it wasn’t picked by televoting. With only four days left he demanded a second national final be organised. That took place last night and Alyosha was declared the winner with the song called To Be Free

But today it turns out that second time wasn’t right for Ukraine either as it has now been revealed that the song has been publicly aired before the 1st of October 2009 and as such directly contravenes EBU’s rules. To make things even worse the runner up from last night is not able to participate at the Eurovision Song Contest either because it breaks exactly the same rule.

What the Ukrainian broadcaster will do now is still unknown, but we do know for a fact that if they still want to participate at this year’s contest in May they need to have a song they can officially hand in tomorrow.
