Belgium takes another step towards Düsseldorf

Belgium’s song is being chosen this year by French language broadcaster RTBF.  Approaching things from a different angle, their current field of 30 songs is being whittled down to 14 in a Sunday morning programme.

RTBF’s method for choosing a Eurovision song is a break with the usual method of selecting a song for Eurovision.  First announced last year, potential songs needed to raise €20,000 in order to be considered.  They also had to be in either French or English.

Such was the success of this, 30 songs managed this threshold, necessitating an extra stage in the process.  In a programme on RTBF’s VivaCité radio channel on Sunday, starting at 10.00 CET, the 30 runners will be cut down to 14. There will be a live stream on RTBF’s website, a link to which can be found below.  All 30 songs are currently available in audio form on RTBF’s website.

The 14 finalists will be chosen via a combination of jury (50%), radio listeners (25%) and internet votes (25%).  The four-person jury includes Sandra Kim (1986) and Viktor Laszlo (host, 1987)

The final will be broadcast on RTBF’s La Une Channel on Monday 14 February.
