Today Azerbaijani television and Efendi released the song that will represent Azerbaijan at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021.

Efendi was supposed to have represented Azerbaijan at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 before it was cancelled due to Covid 19. Back then she was supposed to sing the song Cleopatra.

Azerbaijan will take part in the second half of the first semi-final to be held on 18th of May 2021.

Samari Efendi – a brief biography

Samira Azer gizi Efendiyeva was born in Baku on the 17th of April 1991. She appeared in the Azerbaijani version of The Voice in 2015 and 2016 coming third. Going by her stage name, Efendi, she has participated in several contests around Eastern Europe and Kazakhstan.

Her biggest break so far in her career came last year when she was selected to represent Azerbaijan at the Eurovision Song Contest with this song Cleopatra. Unfortunately due to COVID-19 the contest was cancelled, and she was unable to fulfil her dream.

Azerbaijan at the Eurovision Song Contest

Azerbaijan made their debut at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008 with Elmir and Samir with the song day Day After Day.

In the next five years they finished in every place within the top five. Best of all came Ell and Nikki in 2011 who won with Running Scared.

From the land of fire, a fire was started in 2014 where Azerbaijan started to slip down the table a little. Unfortunately in 2018 X My Heart by Aisel was the first time that Azerbaijan failed to make the finals. Fortunately they recovered in 2019 when Chingiz took Truth to 8th place.
