Iceland will be performing 12th in the upcoming Second Semi Final this Thursday. The country is represented by Maria Olafs with the song Unbroken. Are there any changes since the country’s first rehearsal? What is the impression left by the song amongst the other entries in the running order? We try to answer your questions reporting live from inside the hall of Wiener Stadthalle.
Iceland will benefit from appearing after Latvia and Azerbaijan. Indeed, One Step Out Of Time provides a much needed lightness after the tone had turned a bit sombre earlier. Maria’s feet, lower legs and fingers are covered in golden star dust which now explains the moment with where gold dust is thrown at the camera as well as the ‘yellow’ footsteps shown on the stage floor which Maria follows at the beginning (I gather the steps are not supposed to appear yellow, but gold). Maria is also wearing a butterfly on her right wrist. In the background we can see that Hera Björk (Iceland 2010) has finally made it and is now one of the backing vocalists. Maria’s performance is as confident as ever and the final shot when she looks back at the camera lights up the camera with sweetness. Not a definite but a likely candidate for a place in the final.
Iceland has managed to qualify seven times (in the last seven years) out of a total of ten semi finals it has participated in.
