Germany

Germany holds the record as the country that has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest the most times. It joined in 1956, and has only missed out on 1996 where the country was eliminated in a pre-selection round. Since the semi-finals were introduced Germany has been automatically qualified for the final each year. The country can brag about reaching top10 a total number of 36 times, but they only won once. Their first victory came in 1982 where Nicole won the hearts of many Europeans asking for a bit of peace. In 2010 Lena Meyer-Landrut were the big favourite to win, and she managed to live up to the expectations with her song Satelite.

In 2015 Germany is represented at the Eurovision Song Contest by Ann Sophie who came second in the national final, which had the bizarre situation that the winner refused going to Eurovision.
