Svetlana Loboda was born on the 18th of October, 1982 in Kyiv, Ukraine. Virtually from the age she could walk, Svetlana showed a passionate interest for performing in variety of fields, much to the pleasure of family members. Her mother played a vital role in nurturing her talent, by enrolling her in numerous courses. The young artist is a dab hand at multi tasking too, as she managed to study piano, singing and conducting all at the same time!
Upon completion of her studies at music school, Svetlana progressed on to the Kyiv Variety and Circus Academy, specializing in variety and jazz vocals. It didn’t take long for her to get a taste for performing, after becoming a member of the group Cappuccino. In 2003, Svetlana’s career received a major boost when she was cast for and won the lead role in the musical The Equator. Later that year, she founded the band Catch, which gave her the opportunity to craft her organisatory, designing and composing skills. Her experience with Catch led her on to bigger things, when she became the lead vocalist in top band throughout Eastern Europe, Nu Virgos.
Her time with Nu Virgos was however shortlived, as by the end of 2004, she had decided to take a shot at a solo career. Within a year, she had released both a single Черно-белая зима (Black and white winter) and her debut album, Ты не забудешь (You Won’t Forget). With the assistance of Alexander Shyrkov her career went from strength to strength, and her following soon spread to
neighbouring Russia, where her music picked up considerable airplay.
2006 saw her branch out as a TV presenter, with the programme ShowMania. Quite the entrepreneur, she juggled several tasks at the same time, starting her own touring company, Happy Vacations as well as continuing with her recording career. 2007 saw a yet undiscovered side to Svetlana, as she held an exhibition of her photographic work.
During the course of her singing career, she has released 3 studio albums, as well as 3 compilation albums from 2005-2009 and no fewer than 15 singles, scoring one of her biggest hits in 2008 with By Your Side which topped the Ukranian charts. Following her spectacular performance in Moscow at the Eurovision Song Contest, the singer has gone on to release a further 3 singles, all becoming repsectable hits on her home turf.
