Ell, born Eldar Gasimov in Baku 1989 was always a keen performer studying performing arts and taking part in singing competitions (national and international). It was only last year in 2010 when Eldar graduated from Baku Slavic University studying international relations however, since the age of 11, he has always wanted to perform at the Eurovision Song Contest. Since Azerbaijan’s first entry in 2008, Eldar has followed the contest intensely and decided to audition for Azerbaijan in the national selection leading to his triumphal victory.

Nikki, born Nigar Jamal in Baku 1980 has been singing since a very young age where she attended music school studying piano (similar to Ell). Nigar has also followed the Eurovision Song Contest since 2000 after one of her favourite Russian singers, Alsou, finished 2nd place. Last year, Nigar decided to audition for Azerbaijan’s national selection and was announced as a short lister going on to win the contest with Eldar representing Azerbaijan under their nicknames: Ell and Nikki.
