Emmy was born Emma Bejanyan in 1984. Coming from a family with a musical background, it was only natural that music would become Emmy’s biggest passion. Already at an early age, she gained significant exposure in her native Armenia, following the release of her debut song Hastayan in 1993. At the age of 10, her success was further cemented when she won the prize for best singer in the Asup Song Contest. From then onwards, her career really took off, with her taking part in numerous competitions all over Europe, garnering many accollades.
She studied music at the Sayat-Nova Musical School as well as at the Yerevan State Conservatory, specializing in jazz vocals.
Besides her career as a solo singer, Emmy is well known as a member of the group Hayer from 1994 until 2000. During her career, she has released three studio albums and has also figured in many prominent and popular TV shows. Emmy is considered by many to be something of a national treasure, an icon and is often referred to as Armenia’s pop princess.
The talented young singer has also played a key role in the founding of an organization, the Emmy-B Production Center, which aims to help promote young musicla talent in Armenia. Representing Armenia is the latest stepstone in her plan for career development. She attempted to represent Armenia last year with Mihran and Let Me Hear You Say, coming second to Eva Rivas with Apricot Stone. No doubt all of Armenia will be tuning in in May to see how she fares in Düsseldorf.
