Born Dimitry Šavrov on the 18th of September, 1983 in Vilnius, Sasha Son couldn’t have gotten a better start to his career in music. He burst onto the Lithuanian music scene aged 12, with a song called Mamai (To Mother), which went on to become one of the biggest selling songs ever in his home country, and which is considered something of an evergreen to this very day. At the same time he released a solo album, Svajoniu Laivas (The Ship of Dreams), which also went on to become a best seller.
That same year, he received a Bravo music award for newcomer of the year, cementing his popularity with Lithuanians even further. Sasha entered numerous competitions across Europe, and was even the recipient of a letter of gratitude from the President of Lithuania for his musical achievements, no mean feat for such a young artist.
A change of pasture brought him to London, where he pursued his passion for music through studies upon finishing his secondary education in the capital. He returned triumphantly back to his homeland in 2005, when he won the Grand Prize at the Palanga 2005 Music Festival, and his first single in over ten years, Ne Uletaj became a monster hit upon its’ release, rocketing to #1 in the Baltic Russian Radio Top 10, staying within the top 10 for 14 weeks.
This isn’t Sasha’s first brush with things Eurovision – he attempted to represent Lithuania in 2008, making third place in the national pre-selection with his song Miss Kiss. The same year he also participated in a TV talent show, LNK Muzikos Akademija, also coming 3rd. Following his successful attempt with the song Love in 2009 to sing for Lithuania, Sasha came back for more, once again entering the Lithuanian pre-selections. There he sang a duet with Nora called Say Yes To Life, but unfortunately the public didn’t say yes to giving Sasha another chance at representing them.
The artist has many musical influences, citing Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys, Queen, Lil’ Kim, Ella Fitzgerald, Boyz II Men and Lauryn Hill as the most significant ones.
