They are a folk group of six grandmothers between the ages of 50 and 77 originally from the Russian republic of Udmurtia. Their name can be translated as Buranovo Grannies and they became known four years ago when they appeared for the first time on a TV show. They are also well-known for their folk versions in Udmurt language of popular songs by Aquarium, The Beatles or Queen.
They achieved the third position in last year’s Russian national final and after that they took part in a lot of concerts including a special performance at the open air festival Rock Above Volga. They have also been touring in other European countries like Estonia and France.
They said they will use all the raised money to build a church in their hometown.
