Sjonni’s Friends were actually a late edition to Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins, the Icelandic national selection organised bu RÚV. They were chosen to perform the entry of the late Sigurjón Brink at the request of Sigurjón’s wife and co writer of Aftur Heim, Þórunn Erna Clausen. Sigurjón died unexpectedly at home a mere week prior to participating in his qualifying heat of the national selection, and was an audience favourite, having participated three times previously with Hjartaþrá, Áfram and most recently, Waterslide.
The group Sjonni’s Friends consists of Gunnar Ólason, Vignir Snær Vigfússon, Pálmi Sigurhjartarson, Matthías Matthíasson, Hreimur Örn Heimisson & Benedikt Brynleifsson. Between them, the group members have a broad musical experience, and Vignir Snær Vigfússon has written Selma‘s 1995 entry If I Had Your Love, as well as performing in one of Iceland’s most popular groups Írafár, together with Birgitta Haukdal.
