Axel Hirsoux was the only Walloon (French speaking Belgian) competitor to take part in this year’s Belgian selection organised by Flemish broadcaster VRT. He was born on the 28th of September 1982 and grew up in Courcelles, near to Charleroi. He was captivated by music from an early age, learning to play the trumpet and studying music theory. His passion for music took Axel to France, where aged 23, he auditioned for the Star Academy TV talent show, narrowly missing out. Not discouraged by this minor set back, he continued to follow his dream and has also taken part in the Concours International de la Chanson song contest.
Axel also auditioned for The Voice Belgique last year, making it as far as the second heat. Besides participating in singing contests, Axel has gained invaluable experience performing roles in a number of musicals such as that of Quasimodo in Notre Dame de Paris. A fervent fan of Eurovision, participating at the contest for his native Belgium is a dream come true for Axel.
