Firelight was the sole group competing in this year’s Maltese selection. They are a country/folk group composed of Richard
Micallef, Michelle Mifsud, Wayne William, Daniel Micallef, Tony Polidano and Leslie Decesare. Richard, Michelle, William and Daniel are siblings who come from a musical family. Their father was a popular local singer. Richard is the lead singer of the group and penned himself the song Coming home. In particular he plays the Appalachian mountain dulcimer.
Most of the members of Firelight are not new to the Maltese selection; Richard came close in
representing Malta when he ended up as runner up in the 2011 Maltese
national final with the song Finally. Wayne William competed several times in the Maltese selection. Infact this year he competed with the song Same kind of wonderful but after Firelight’s victory he joined the group on it’s journey to Copenhagen. Michelle had some appearances in the Maltese final in particular with her two brothers in 2003 and 2005 under the group name of The Mics.
Firelight are planning to release a new album entitled Coming Home. The album is expected to contain nine brand new songs. All tracks in the album will bring together the creative ideas of the band members.
