DR drops Danish for national selection as new logo and slogan is revealed

This morning Danish broadcaster, DR, presented their new logo for the national selections. The stars used since 2009 are gone and replaced with what they believe can last 10 years. The slogan for 2015 was presented as well, but biggest reactions currently have been to them dropping the national identity.

Next year’s Danish final will take place in Gigantium in Aalborg Saturday the 7th of February 2015. When DR presented the logo and its slogan today, it was clear that the title of the programme will be identical to the Norwegian selection, Melodi Grand Prix. The word Dansk (Danish) in front of it has been dropped, and while most seem to like the new logo, it isn’t particular popular to get rid of the national identity in the title. In the comments to DR’s Facebook post revealing the logo, this is what people are dissatisfied with.

Jan Lagermand Lundme, DR’s Head of Entertainment describes the new logo as "A modern logo that reaches forward, but also back in time, a logo which is trendy, yet classic". Jan also adds that they are well aware of traditions, and seen from distance the new logo is still a star. Why they have dropped the word "Dansk" he is not explaining, but the interesting thing is that in DR’s own article presenting the title, the slogan and the logo, the show is by the author refered to as Dansk Melodi Grand Prix!

Though DR dropped the word Dansk in the title, the slogan for the 2015 Danish selection however is in Danish. This is "Drømmen Lever", which translates to The Dream Is Alive.

DR also revealed today that ticketsale for the 2015 Danish final will start Friday the 31st of October at 10:00 CET. The arena in Aalborg will for this event have an audience size of 8500.
