Go_A and Ukranian Television (UA:PBC) have announced the song that will represent Ukraine at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021.
Go_A submitted three songs to a panel of judges. The songs were, Tserkovka (Церковка), Rano (Рано) and Shum(Шум).
The judges were Jamala, winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 for Ukraine), Yevhen Filatov–The Maneken (singer and producer from the group Onuka), Ruslan Kvinta (music producer and composer) and two members of the Managing Board of UA:PBC: Yaroslav Lodygin and Dmytro Khorkin.
From the three, the judges chose Shum. The official Eurovision version will be released in March.
Who Are Go_A
Go_A are a quartet of three men and one lady from Kyiv, Ukriane. The members are Kateryna Pavlenko, Ihor Didenchuk, Taras Shevchenko and Ivan Hryhoriak.
The bands origins go back to 2011 when Taras had the idea to form an electro-folk group. They released their first song, Koliada (Коляда), in 2012.
Their popularity grew in Ukraine, after the release of Vesnianka (Веснянка), which won the honour of best track in Ukraine in 2015.
Go_A released their first album, Іди на звук, Follow the tune, in 2016. In 2020, they were supposed to represent Ukraine at Eurovision, with the song, Solovey.
Ukraine At The Eurovision Song Contest
Ukraine have appeared at the Eurovision Song Contest, fifteen times, and have qualified for the final every time. They have won the contest twice, first with Ruslana and Wild Dances in 2004 , and then again in 2016, with Jamala and 1944.
The country has also come second, twice in back to back years, 2007 and 2008. That was with Verka Serduchka and Dancing Lasha Tumbai, and Shady Lady from Ani Lorak.
Interestingly had Go_A been able to represent Ukraine at Eurovision last year, they would have been the first entry where all of the song was in Ukranian.
