The National Television Company of Ukraine (NTU) have finally signed the contract to lease the International Exhibition Centre for the 62nd Eurovision Song Contest in 2017.
The NTU are continuing to making steps in the right direction. It has been reported today that the NTU have finally signed the lease contract to enable them to use the International Exhibition Centre for the contest next year. This is significantly later than normal, usually the venue is one of the first things to be finalised.
The International Exhibition Centre is located on the left bank of the Dnieper river, roughly a 20 minute car journey from central Kyiv. The choice of venue was openly criticised by former Eurovision contestant Andriy Danylko (Verka Serduchka). Danylko who is also part of the expert jury for Ukraine this year expressed his concern at the difficulties fans might face in getting to the venue.
Reports state that the cost of the venue for the contest will cost 35.1 million hryvnias. For this price they will receive a room area of 31 thousand square metres, with three halls and 16 meeting rooms. In addition, the NTU delegates available at the time of the show will be given a parking lot and green zone. They also have the use of the surrounding areas which include sidewalks and roads. The first instalment of the fee (28.8 million hryvnia) is to be made within 12 days of the transaction. The rest of the amount paid by June.
