After six spectacular live shows of A Dal 2018, Hungary finally made their decision tonight: it’s AWS who will represent the country at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Portugal with the song Viszlát nyár .
After four semi-finals, a first round in the final and finally a super final the Hungarian TV audience and juries have finally chosen!

Following the results of the three heats and the two semi-finals, only eight songs remained in the competition and had a chance to win A Dal 2018:
- Zsolt Süle – Zöld a május
- Gergely Dánielfy – Azt mondtad
- Gábor Heincz “BIGA” – Good Vibez
- Leander Kills – Nem szól harang
- AWS – Viszlát nyár
- Viktor Király – Budapest Girl
- yesyes – I Let You Run Away
- Tamás Horváth – Meggyfa
The show and the results
In the first round of the show – hosted by Krisztina Rátonyi and Freddie – all performances were commented on by the four-member jury without giving out points one by one this time. Jury members were once again Károly Frenreisz, Judit Schell, Misi Mező and Miklós Both. After all songs had been performed, the jury gave out 10, 8, 6 and 4 points for their personal favourites. The Top 4 songs after this voting have qualified to the Superfinal.

In the Superfinal the power has been given to the people: only televoting decided upon the winner. During the voting period Misi Mező’s band Magna Cum Laude together with György Ferenczi and also last year’s Hungarian Eurovision entrant Joci Pápai performed an interval act each on stage.
At the peak of the show Krisztina and Freddie simply announced the winner of A Dal 2018 who got the most votes from the audience, and it was AWS. That means they got the right to represent Hungary at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon. AWS will perform in the second half of Semi Final 2 on the 10th of May.
What 2018 will bring for the Central European country at Eurovision is at this moment unclear of course, but you can enjoy tonight’s winning performance in the video below
Hungary at the Eurovision Song Contest
Hungary debuted at Eurovision in 1994 in Dublin. Friderika Bayer’s 4th position from that year is still the country’s best ever result at the contest. After a longer period of withdrawals and returns, Hungary has participated at the Eurovision Song Contest every year since 2011.
In 2012, broadcaster MTVA launched the new national selection format; A Dal, which has quickly become popular and also successful. Since their 2011 return, Hungary has qualified to the Grand Final every single time – that means a series of seven qualifications in a row. On three occasions (2013, 2014 and 2017), they even finished in the Top 10 of the Grand Final.
