Finalists for Polish Krajowe Eliminacje 2016 revealed

The Polish national broadcaster TVP revealed some minutes ago the nine artists that will battle it out in Krajowe Eliminacje 2016, which is Poland’s national final for the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. The Polish song selection will be held on the 5th of March and among the participants are Edyta Górniak, Margaret and other well known names of the Polish music industry.

TVP revealed the list of the participants of Krajowe Eliminacje 2016, the Polish national final, which will be held on the 5th of March in Warsaw. Poland returns to a national selection format for the first time since 2011 and gives all the power to the public, as the next representative of the country will be selected by 100% televoting. The selected entries were announced during the TVP1 programme Świat się kręci, hosted by Artur Orzech. In the studio there was a talk betweem Tomasz Lener (OGAE Poland President), Artur Onacki (OGAE Poland Head of Press), Maciej Mazanski (editor of Eurowizja.org), Robert Janowski (jury member) and Monika Kuszynska (Polish Eurovision 2015 entrant) about this year’s Polish national final. They were all enthusiastic about the national selection TVP decided to hold this year, and optimistic about a good placing in Stockholm. Artur Orzech’s show Świat się kręci is strongly connected to Eurovision as Artur is the Polish commentator for the contest and hosted the national final of Poland several times in the past.

The line up of the Polish national final is as follows; you can use the links to listen to the songs (EuroVisionary will be adding them as they become available):

Among the participants we can see established artists of the country like Edyta Górniak (Poland 1994), Margaret and Michal Szpak. Napoli finished second with the same song in the Belarussian National Final 2016 two months ago while Taraka is a band with Polish and Ukrainian members. Between 18th February and 4th March, each competing artist will present their entry with a live performance during broadcasts of Świat się kręci. The competing artists will be required to submit a promotional video for their song to TVP by 1st March 2016.

Poland in the Eurovision Song Contest

Poland debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994, the same year they achieved their best placement in the contest when their superstar Edyta Górniak with her song To Nie Ja attained second place. Since then, Poland has only achieved a top ten place in the final once, in 2003, when Ich Troje performed Keine Grenzen in Riga.

This will be the country’s 19th entry in the contest. Last year, it was Monika Kuszyńska who represented Poland in Vienna. With ten points, she ended 23rd out of 27 in the Grand Final.
