Poland: Gromee feat. Lukas Meijer – Light Me Up (First and second rehearsal, video and gallery)

Watching the rehearsals we now know how the Polish entry will be performed next Thursday. The staging is kept mainly in blue and pink colours with pyro twice during the performance – very Eurovision classic.

Poland is competing in the second semi-final as start number 11. They are represented by Gromee feat. Lukas Meijer and their song Light Me Up, which is written by Andrzej Gromala (Gromee), Lukas Meijer, Mahan Moin and Christian Rabb.

Second rehearsal

Opinions expressed during our second rehearsal coverage are personal from the mentioned writers.

Josef, Czech Republic (in the arena) Light me up can very easily become a summer hit this year. The staging is not a very creative one but in combination with the past qualification record of Poland, I am pretty sure we will see Poland in the final this year.

Jens Erik, Denmark (in the press centre) The Polish entry this year is a bit boring to me. The performance is “to little” and doesn’t get my attention. Even though the song is good, it’s not good enough for me to carry Poland to the final. It may not be on my list, but it might still qualify.

First rehearsal

Second country to rehearse today was Poland. Lukas Meijer is in front of the stage behind a microphone stand and he’s wearing a black leather jacket, black trousers and a black hat. In the back we have Groome hiding behind a big DJ desk with light. During the performance he’s waving to the camera and to the audience. On stage we also find three female backing singers and a guitar player.

The stage is mostly blue and pink colours, but we get a little bit pyro twice during the performance. In the last part of the song Lukas leaves his microphone stand walking over the bridge to the catwalk placed among the audience.

It’s very Eurovision classic and if you remember the Norwegian entry last year – Grab the Moment by JOWST – you’ll have a clear idea of what you’ll see when Poland go on stage as song number 11 in the second semi-final.

How Gromee feat. Lukas Meijer were selected

The national final in Poland, Krajowe Eliminacje, took place on the 3rd of March. ,

10 acts competed for the right to represent the country at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest. A combination of televoting and a professional decided the outcome. Kasia Moś (Poland 2017) was one of the jury members.

Despite only getting 8 points from the jury, the public disagreed so much with the jury, that the 8 points combined with the 12 from the public voting was enough to secure Gromee and Lukas Meijer the victory, although it was a tight result.

Poland at the Eurovision Song Contest

Back in 1994, Poland had an amazing Eurovision debut. Edyta Górniak represented the country and finished in second place with the song To Ni Ja. If fans thought, they could walk on water, they however quickly came down to earth again. Poland’s second top 10 result came in 2016 where Color Of Your Life surprisingly came in 8th.

In 2004, semi-finals were introduced, and Poland failed to reach the final in 2005, 2006, 2007 and again another three years from 2009 to 2011. The country didn’t take part in 2012 and 2013, but they came back stronger in 2014 – since when they have qualified for the final each year.
