The Netherlands will be performing 4th in the upcoming First Semi Final this Tuesday. The country is represented by Trijntje Oosterhuis with the song Walk Along. Are there any changes since the country’s first rehearsal? What is the impression left by the song amongst the other entries in the running order? We try to answer your questions reporting live from inside the hall of Wiener Stadthalle.
The big story of the morning – Trijntje has ditched the low-cut dress she was wearing during The Netherland’s first rehearsal (well done, girl). Instead she is now wearing a black leather jacket over a tight, long black dress – there is still cleavage on show but much less and in a more conventional way than was the case in the first rehearsal. The veil is still there, but this time it is tidily tucked under Tinjntje’s hair. Her performance is still strong; her face looking a bit serious though, one does not get the sense that she’s enjoying being on stage – it would be nice if Trijntje smiled a bit more to the camera. The Netherlands try a red leather jacket with black and white prints during the third run of the song – I like that, it shows they are doing their best to get things right. Indeed, everything looks more congruent today, that is down to the trick with the fluorescent message of ‘LOVE’ on Trijntje’s fingers as well as on the back of the backing singers’ jackets.
The change in musical style is less pronounced than before here and, to start with, when the stage is lit in white and greys for the Dutch presentation, the two presentations are not too dissimilar visually either. I think that it would be to the Netherlands’ benefit if they were subconsciously grouped together with the Belgian performance and its originality. Glad to see that the delegation are trying to up their game.
The Netherlands have managed to qualify three times from a total of eleven semi finals they have competed in the past.
